 We’re halfway into 2023 and cannot believe all of the crafting and creating opportunities we’ve had. From pageant sashes and custom logo creating to graduation stoles, we’ve been living dangierously. We had the honor of creating and donating customized graduation stoles to the senior ASB members of Washington Prep High in Los Angeles, CA. As a teacher and former general, it was a project very near to me. I had so much fun and loved seeing the students reactions that I’ve decided to add this item for y’all to purchase! Hey Party People, Welcome back to Live Dangierously! I hope you have had great and safe holidays. We over at Live Dangierously have been playing around with a lot of concepts for the brand and have decided to launch merchandise this Fall 2022! We're so excited to see our mugs on all desks and shirts on all backs in the soon coming months. And then I realized, many of you may not have really taken the time to understand the logo and how it came about. Branding almost feels as old as time for those of us who have grown up in such a consumerism era, but there's a lot of work that goes on behind the scene to create iconic images such as the green siren of Starbucks or the golden arches of McDonald's. Here at Live Dangierously we have our growth mindset icon! A person whose head is filled with potential and with nourishment and encouragement is sure to prevail and grow. Surrounded by a flourishing green semi-circle which also leads back out from itself, our logo highlights that community and environment are important as they stimulate us but also we are apart of these things and must give back. I had all of these ideas but very little of the skill! Though I consider myself creative, my own brand of creativity worked against me for this task. My initial ideas were too grand and complicated for a logo. Knowing I needed help, I reached out to a great designer on Fiverr.com by the name of LogoFlow. After explaining my concept and showing my own poorly rendered attempt, LogoFlow was able to workshop a few ideas with me. If you're looking for similar logo work, I'd for sure recommend him as the turn over time was great, even with working with my time difference due to me being based in California and him being in India.  Hey there Party People! This past week, we ended an eventful school year and with that comes some celebration. I hosted my first potluck at The Prep and students and staff showed up and out! Yes, it can be messy. Yes, you will have leftovers you have to convince coworkers to take with them. But it’s so worth it for the moments where your students just get to be kids and have some fun. Last post, we talked about rewarding high achieving students. In my classroom, we have The Generals’ Club. This past week, I decided to change the name a bit. It’s a small but intentional switch of the apostrophe. Rather then being the general who runs the club, I decided that because it’s for our generals, the name should symbolize it belong to them.  Flight tickets were turned in and certificates were given away along with the end of semester gift cards of course sponsored by us at Live Dangierously! This year’s Generals’ Club was small with one junior and one freshman, but we hope to expand next school year.
What are some of your favorite end of the year activities and how do students respond to them? Let us know in the comments!  Hey there Party People! This semester has been a wild ride with a lot of learning and teaching involved. One of my favorite things I started up with my student teaching was a club for students with straight As. I called it “The Admiral’s Club”. Students were given a welcome letter, a crystal for a trait they’d expressed wanting more development in, and a flight ticket. At the end of the semester, they would need to give back the flight ticket on the date written on it. Upon submitting the ticket, they were given a certificate as well as a Visa gift card. When starting at Washington, it soon became “The General’s Club”. Students were given the same items in their welcome packages with a twist! Every 2-3 weeks students also got other items during their continued membership based on a theme.   With themes like “Pen to Paper” and “Inner Peace”, students are given gifts and prizes! For “Pen to Paper”, students got paper related gifts tailored to their interests such as journals and sketchbooks. With “Inner Peace”, they got a pass to use on any assignment less than 30 points.   The amounts of money for gift cards should be equal for all members but of course the total pot could vary based on the teacher and funds. I personally fund this class club so gift cards tends to be $25-$50 based on how many students are involved total by the end of the semester. While students can join at any point prior to the last week of the semester, they can also be kicked out if their straight A status drops for longer than 2 weeks.
